Kelpi addresses the sachet problem

The Sachet Problem: durable, versatile and lightweight; plastic sachets are present everywhere you look.
That’s not a good thing.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation estimate 20 trillion flexible plastic packaging items will be in our oceans by 2040.  For all that plastics boast in performance, there are significant negative impacts on both the environment and consumers:
- Fossil-fuel derived
- Environment polluting
- Incompatible with recycling infrastructure

These impacts have been robustly researched and well documented, with consumers no longer willing to accept them. The good news? They don’t need to.

Paper-based replacements represent a huge opportunity to move away from this harmful form of packaging without compromising on performance.

At Kelpi, we are building on this opportunity, addressing these issues by pairing a traditional material with innovative coatings. Our bio-based coatings offer an exceptional water barrier (WVTR < 2 @ 10 GSM coating), and extended shelf life, enabling us to provide industry leading performance while maintaining recyclability. Paper sachets with seaweed-based coatings combine sustainability, functionality, and circularity in a way plastics simply cannot. The era of plastic sachets is drawing to a close.
